Vocabulary Lists – Pacing of publication

I will be dribbling out in the next couple days a series of vocabulary lists that my kids have worked through already. So even though you will suddenly see several week’s worth of work come out in a few days, you can pace yourselves at whatever works for your kids.
Once I have all of the vocabulary posted, my vocabulary posts will follow this schedule:

  • Week 1 – 20 new words <test at end of week>
  • Week 2 – 20 new words <test at end of week>
  • Week 3 – 0 new words, test of all words to-date <40 at this stage>
  • Week 4 – 20 new words <test at end of week>
  • Week 5 – 20 new words <test at end of week>
  • Week 6 – 0 new words, test of all words to-date <80 at this stage>
  • Week 7 and on – you get the pattern…

I hope others find this useful. Oh, and to limit the insanity, I don’t usually test the kids on ALL the words in one of the review weeks (e.g. Week 6).  I will randomly select 20 words from the list and they are expected to get 80% of better – yes that means 4 wrong. I happen to be a kind-hearted soul (some might cough a bit at this), and may give half credit on an answer if they give a proper definition but misuse the word in a sentence (e.g. use a noun as an adjective, or some such).
Thanks,
Mike Rothman
